| The Strathcona Community Gardeners Society is a non-profit charitable society with a Board of Directors made up of gardeners from both Strathcona and Cottonwood Community Gardens. Membership dues are $10 per year and plots are rented for $5 per plot per year. There are monthly meetings and regular work parties for working on common areas - paths, fruit trees, compost turning clean up and building projects. The gardens have several objectives: to provide garden space to area residents for food growing; to reclaim, restore, and maintain the gardens using organic methods; to improve the wildlife habitat by diversifying the range of plants that can be grown; to use the gardens in an educational role for gardeners and the community as a while through workshops, tours, and day to day exchange; to provide a place for area residents to visit and enjoy. |
