Heritage House Tour 2013 - Urban Farming Pre-Tour Lecture May 21st

Heritage House Tour 2013 - Urban Farming Pre-Tour Lecture

Get excited about our 2013 Heritage House Tour by attending our pre-tour lecture Tuesday May 21 at 7pm . Learn from public speaker and author Peter Ladner about a modern initiative with historic roots in converting your lower beds into food producing plots. To purchase tickets for VHF’s Heritage House Tour

pre-tour lecture visit www.vancouverheritagefoundation.org or call 604 264 9642.

Revisiting the Urban Farm - New Priorities Meet an Old Practice

Vancouver, like all cities, was at one time almost food self-suficient. The new urban farming trend is

reclaiming some of that past and bringing food production back into the city and into view. Historically

people would grow food to help feed the household, and later to help with the war efforts. Recently

modern motives of sustainability, environmental responsibility and community stewardship have inspired

locals to plant food bearing fauna replacing non-native ornamentals.

Peter Ladner, author of Urban Food Revolution, speaks about the reasons to convert your small piece

of land into a functionable plot where food is grown and harvested, as well as the options for what to do

with your harvest. Peter will be joining us May 21st at 7pm for our pre-tour lecture with copies of his

book available. Then join us on June 2nd for the Heritage House Tour, as Peter stations himself at a tour

house with it’s own urban farm to answer visitor questions.
